February 2026 Writing Prompts

Iโ€™m snowed in (and cut off from civilization) while writing this. Thank you. Winter Storm Fern. What a name for a storm in the winter. Anyway, while I was outside in this snowy weather feeding my outdoor cat, I saw something that amazed me. Iโ€™m walking back and forth on my front porch, making sure to avoid a huge strip of ice on the edge, when I saw something moving through my yard out of the corner of my eye. What would be out and up here in this kind of weather?

Just as a lot of us have pets that we loveโ€”I have two dogs and six catsโ€”many of our presidentโ€™s have also had pets. Not surprisingly, dogs have been the most popular pets, but some presidents have had pets that just about anyone would consider unusual. Morning Surprise

I woke up this morning with a mouse in my bed. A mouse isnโ€™t something I want in my bedroom, especially not in my bed. Granted, it was already dead, and that is preferable to it being alive and running around. Iโ€™m assuming it was already dead when it ended up under the covers. And at least it wasnโ€™t right next to me. Still, I will be changing my sheets today.
