On the Fourth of July, we celebrate our freedom from England and the birth of our nation. And July is also the month I was born. Besides writing about the Fourth and birthdays, a magical world is somehow created by a never-ending rain, and you’re left a cabin in the woods by an unknown uncle.

July 1-7
Your town has a spectacular and patriotic Fourth of July celebration planned with a huge fireworks display, live music, and cookouts. But something unsettling has been brewing.
Not everyone in your town wants the Fourth celebrated. In fact, one very unpatriotic individual wants to stop it. So the culprit sets out to sabotage everything they can to stop the celebration from happening. What do they do? Are they caught before they can succeed? If so, what is their punishment?
July 8-16
We had a very rainy June this year with a total of six inches of rain, but that doesn’t compare to the July we had several years ago when we had just under twelve inches of rain in one month. We live way up on a hill, and during that rainy month, we even had a snapping turtle visit us. Thank goodness, my two outdoor dogs had enough sense to stay away from this bitey turtle (that is what my daughter calls them).

But this time the rain just keeps coming down. It keeps coming down until everything wis covered, and it shows no signs of letting up. Strangely though, electricity and phone services aren’t wiped out. Houses aren’t swept off their foundations. People and animals don’t drown. Nothing about life changes, but everything living is different. Somehow they have changed and are now able to exist in the water.
A fantasy story, maybe several, is definitely begging to be written.
You could also write a story about that lone snapping turtle who made a journey up the steep woody hill to reach our land that rainy July. Was his trip treacherous? What did he think of Pip (Australian Shepherd) and Kronk (German Shepherd), our two outdoor dogs?
July 17-24
My birthday is this week, so you need to write some kind of birthday-related story.

- Write about your dream birthday.
- Write about a scary birthday. This could be a horror story with someone stalking you. Or it could be a hilarious story where there has been a huge misunderstanding. It could even be a thriller, one where it is up to you to be the hero and save the world from destruction.
- You could even make it a sad story. I’ve never had a sad birthday, but I have had a very sad Christmas. My mom died just after Christmas. Since I was only eight, that was extremely catastrophic. But in this one, something sad needs to happen on or around your birthday.
- Refer back to the writing prompt for July 8-16.. What if all of this happened while you were asleep? You wake up the morning of your birthday to find that your entire world and you have changed. What are your first thoughts? How do you adjust to your new way of life?

July 25-31
You receive a strange piece of mail. Okay, it is a normal piece of mail from a lawyer (not that you receive these very often), but what it says surprises you. Your uncle has died and you are expected to be at the reading of his will. First, you never knew this uncle. The family never spoke about him. Second, why would you be expected at the reading of his will?
Turns out, he left you his cabin in the woods. But before you go to this cabin, you want to find out all about this uncle, especially since it appears he was murdered. Why has none of the family ever mentioned him? What happened to cause this? And why did he choose to leave you this cabin? Are there secrets hidden inside?
