Asher’s War (Asher Benson Book 3) – a Review

After the horrifying events that took place in Arthur’s Creek, West Virginia, Asher Benson has remained hidden, but he longs to find the man who caused those events to take place.

Asher's WarThe story begins in the subway system of Washington, D.C. If you read Madness, you remember the insanity that went on in Arthur’s Creek. Modifications have been made to the phone system to prevent the same thing from happening again, but the bad guy has figured out another way to send the signal of insanity. And he does so in a subway in Washington, D. C.

Christie was on the subway when chaos erupts. During all the pandemonium, a man hands her a small cylinder about the size of a lipstick tube and tells her to deliver it to Detective Andrew Lloyd, and he tells her to keep her earbuds in. The man is killed right in front of her, and she is almost killed too.

Asher Benson is called in. His wit and sarcasm get him in trouble, but those same things also add a humorous touch to a book that would otherwise have you pulling your hair out because of all the serious stuff that is going on. Well, terrible things do happen in Asher’s War, so it might yet have you pulling your hair out. You might pace the floor or throw things, maybe even the book. But please don’t throw your Kindle; you don’t want to break it before you finish the book.

Nami, one of Asher’s sidekicks, is a computer/technology whiz. I would compare her to Abby on NCIS or Penelope Garcia on Criminal Minds. But those characters are both taller than Nami and neither use the colorful language that she often does. Not only can Nami find out whatever information is needed, she is also great at working on the insides of a computer or laptop. And she is loyal to Asher.

Ash puts together a team to go on missions with him. He has researched each of the people he chooses before sending Andrew Lloyd to offer them a job that he can tell them nothing about until they accept.

Ash and his team are called out much sooner than expected, before they have all been trained as to what to expect. Of course, things don’t go exactly as planned, and a vital team member is left behind. A shootout/rescue for this member takes place in an old run-down amusement park. If you thought things had been action-packed and dramatic before this, well, they are about to get even more so.

Jason BrantAbout the Author:
Jason Brant used to work full-time as a Digital Forensic Analyst for the Department of Defense.  One day, he did something that many of us long to do.  He quit his job so he could write books, watch movies, and drink microbrews.

Even though that life sounds like a dream come true, he has been hard at work writing.  That is awesome for those of us that like to read his work.  He has written two series: West of Hell (GehennaTartarus and Sheol) and The Hunger (DevouredConsumed, and Ravaged).  The Gate and The Dark are two more horror novels he has written.  Many short stories, one of which can be found in Paranormal Anthology with a Twist, have also been written.
