Books are printed works of fiction or nonfiction meant to teach or entertain. No matter what is going on in my life, it is a pleasure to pick one up and get lost in its pages.
1) Face it: there are way too many sensitive people in this world that will get mad at you for about any given reason. A book will never get mad at you. Even if you throw it across the room because the ending upsets you, even if it makes you so mad that you decide to have your own book burning, the book will be submissive and not get mad.
2) If you yell at a book and cuss it out, a book will never talk back to you. It won’t frown at you or cry. The only way the look on its cover will change is if you do something to make it look different.
3) No matter what kind of mood you are in, there is a book suitable for you. Are you in a mood to learn? There is a wide selection of nonfiction books available. Are you angry? This might be the time to pick up a humorous book. In a mood for love? Browse through the romance section in your local bookstore or on Amazon.
4) Are you a hermit? Maybe you find your life boring. Through the pages of a book, you can experience so many things. Depending on the genre of book you choose, you will find friendship, love, and adventure. Or perhaps you prefer to find murder, horror, and the paranormal.
5) Do you need to learn about a certain place or thing? There are books available to entertain you while you learn. All of that learning will keep your mind active, and an active mind is a healthy mind.
Have you had a lifelong desire to travel to exotic locations in the world? If you can’t afford a cruise to any of your dream destinations, the right book will allow you to experience them.
6) When you don’t feel good, a book is always there to comfort and make you feel better. When you are sick is a perfect time to do some extreme reading. Your brain is exercised while your body rests and works on defeating the germs that have invaded it.
7) If you can’t afford to buy your own books, you can check them out from a library. There are books that you can download free of charge from Amazon to enjoy on your Kindle or from Barnes & Noble to read on your Nook.
8) I value my books so much that I doubt I would never do this, but for people of short stature, a stack of books can help you reach higher to grab hold of what is out of your reach. I recommend this only as a last resort. If your stack of books isn’t sturdy or stacked properly, the chance that they will slip out from under you is huge.
9) I believe that books should be treasured and taken great care of, but in case of an emergency, a book, especially a thick hardcover one, is great for self-defense. You can throw it at an intruder or beat them over the head.
10) Have you ever skipped cleaning the house or mowing the yard because you were so wrapped up in the book you were reading that it was physically impossible for you to put it down? What if you could do your cleaning and listen to your book at the same time? Audiobooks give us that option. Unless you turn the volume up really high, you still wouldn’t be able to listen to one while mowing your yard though.
What is your favorite thing about books? Why do you love them?
