They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but it is up to the author to write those thousand words. (Richard Petracca) Will you be the one to write those thousand words?
When you look at a picture, do you only see what is right in front of your eyes? Or do you see more? Maybe you can see romance. Or maybe you are someone who reads fantasy, mystery, intrigue, or even horror into everything you see.
Study the pictures and watch the videos in this article. Ask “what if” questions and come up with stories that could be written based on each one. Allow your imagination to take flight and explore all possibilities.
The Veijo Rönkkönen Sculpture Park in Finland looks to be an amazing place. The recluse who lived there was a sculptor and his work is spectacular. There are so many questions I would love to ask this very talented man about the spectacular sculptures he left behind.
Use the questions I would love to ask him or any of the sculptures—if they can speak. Write a story around each one. There are many ideas for stories here.
When did his love of sculpting begin? What inspired him to make his first sculpture?
How long did it take him to create one of his sculptures?
Are any of the sculptures based on people he knew?
When he was done with one sculpture, did it inspire another one? Or did the others tell him who needed to be sculpted and added to their world?
Did he have conversations with his creations? Did he eat his meals outside with his creations? Maybe share a pot of coffee or tea with them?
Did he have any plans to show his creations to the world? Were these sculptures his only friends?
Did the forest animals roam freely around these sculptures?
Did his creations have their own names? Lives of their own? Families? Communities? What stories do these sculptures have to tell the world? Do they want to tell the world or would they rather be left alone?
Did they invite him into their world? Were they already on the land when he moved there? Did he just give their spirits form?
Do they move around when no one is watching? Have they been found in varying positions? Doing different things?
Do they have enemies?
Some of the sculptures have real human teeth. How did he acquire these teeth? Did they come from friends or co-workers? Maybe from the recently dead?
Did they call him master? Do they miss him being around?
When he died, did they hold any kind of ceremony to bid him farewell? Did he maybe cross over into their realm?
