Mia’s Quest for Courage – a Review

Have you ever been afraid of the dark? I’m sure if you think back to your childhood, you can remember a time when you were afraid of the monster you were sure was hiding underneath your bed, or maybe you were terrified of the nameless creature that inhabited your closet.

Mia's Quest for CourageMia’s Quest for Courage is a rhyming picture book written for children four to eight years old.

Mia is a little girl who hears noises coming from beneath her bed. Thoughts of what could be making those noises frighten her. The shadows that move in the night fill her with fear.   Her mom tells her a story that lets her know it is okay to be afraid because the courage is already there inside of her.

Mia drifts off to sleep and dreams of a beautiful city where she hears someone crying for help. A mommy dinosaur is crying because her babies are lost inside a scary cloud.  Mia remembers all the stuff her mom has told her and she bravely sets off to rescue the frightened babies. Thanks to the talent of Inga Shalvashvili, your child can experience this dream of dinosaurs in Cloud City with Mia through some beautiful illustrations.

For a child who is frightened of the small noises that are heard when the lights go out, this story would have a calming effect and bring comfort. And when Mia discovers what is really making the small noises beneath her bed at night, well, it could even bring on some giggles.

Mia’s story is told in an easy, natural rhyme should be pleasing young ones to hear.  There was a time in my life during my childhood when I was scared of the dark.  Hearing a story like this before I attempted to go to sleep and enter my terrifying world of dreams (they really were terrifying at that point in my life) would have soothed my anxious mind and placed good thoughts in my head.

She felt the fear crawl in her heart, and covered up her head.

She almost fled but knew deep down she had to stay so strong.

Find power in your heart, and simply let it grow. Just hold your head up high, and let your courage flow.
