The Patriot Oath – a Review

In this thriller full of action and romance, Josh Kavanagh retires from the military after twenty-four years of being in the Special Forces. He still wants to keep fighting for his country, so he starts The Oath Group to fight terrorists.

The writing is fantastic, and the characters are very well-developed. His sister, Suki, thinks of her big brother as a hero. She believes he has come home to punish her rapist, the youngest son of a ruthless billionaire that can’t be touched by the police or lawyers because his dad buys his way out of justice.

But Josh is able to make her laugh again when he introduces her to a golden retriever named Audie, a support dog for victims of trauma. One of the men in Josh’s group suffers from PTSD, and Audie is there for him.

Rachel, the girl he left behind when he joined the military, thinks he’s returning for her. He doesn’t realize it, but he has two children by her.  Will they rekindle their relationship?

But Josh hasn’t returned home just for Suki. Neither has he come back home just to rekindle a relationship with Rachel. He’s returned home mainly because he is on a secret mission with The Oath Group. The rest of his team is already there and waiting on him, and this is where most of the thrills and action come into play.

Although I did not enjoy the political statements made in this book, the well-developed characters and the exceptional writing made me glad I read it. A word of warning about this book: Although this is a great work of fiction, if you are a conservative, a Christian, or a Trump supporter, you probably don’t want to read it.

Lloyd Lofthouse lives with his family in California’s San Francisco Bay area.
