Random Acts of Kindness Day – This is another day to do kind things for others. There are a lot of organizations and schools that teach about this day. This would be a great day to use in a story. Someone celebrating this day could get into all kinds of trouble if their acts of kindness drove another person crazy.

My Way Day is the day to do everything the way you want to do it. Well, make sure the way you want to do it is legal first, then do it your way! Do you want to sleep in late? Go for it. Do you want to skip doing the housework and just laze around all day? This is the day to do it. Do you want to go rob a bank? That isn’t exactly legal, so I wouldn’t advise doing that. But the character you create could decide to do things his way, no matter whether or not it was legal and no matter what the consequences would be.

Pancake Day is another name for Shrove Tuesday. On this day, a thrifty housewife uses up all the fat she has in the house since she will not be using it during Lent. Pancakes are a standard way of using up the fat. This day is also known as Fat Tuesday.

This would be another good chance to do some research and write a historical fiction story.

International Pancake Day is another holiday about pancakes. It is about free pancakes. The International House of Pancakes offers a short stack of buttermilk pancakes free to all customers. The pancakes are completely free, guests are just asked to consider leaving a donation for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and other designated local charities.

I couldn’t find who started this holiday, so come with a story telling how and why it was created. Was there some tragedy that inspired it? Or was there a miracle that inspired it?

Mardi Gras has been celebrated in various cities around the world since 1699. Closely related to the pagan festival of fertility Lupercalia, it is a day of carnival and merrymaking.

The Mardi Gras would be a fantastic setting for a story that is a story filled with intrigue, a thriller or a mystery. Look up the Mardi Gras on the internet, look at pictures of the partiers of past carnivals and see what you can come up with.

Paczki Day is a day of feasting before the fasting of Lent begins. A paczki is a Polish pastry whose dough is deep-fried and filled with something sweet. They are then usually coated with powdered sugar. Making paczki is another way to use up all of the fats present in the house before the start of Lent.

National Battery Day is the day to celebrate the invention of the battery. Think about it. Batteries are used just about everywhere. A battery helps to start your car. Your laptop has a battery so it can run without being plugged in. And I’m sure you use batteries in your television and DVD player remote controls. Your cell phone won’t work for long at all unless its battery is good. Without batteries, life would be a lot different. A battery manufacturer is most likely the one who created this day, but it isn’t known for sure.

To celebrate this day, why not write a story about what life would be like today if batteries had never been invented?

Cow Milked While Flying in an Airplane Day is definitely an unusual kind of holiday. On February 18, 1930 or 1931 (I found two different dates), Nellie Jay, a dairy cow, flew in an airplane. She flew from her farm in Bismarck, North Dakota, to the International Aircraft Exposition in St. Louis, Missouri. She was milked during the flight and gave 24 quarts of milk. This milk was then sealed in paper containers and hooked to parachutes before being dropped over St. Louis. I’m not sure how humane it was to transport the cow by airplane, but she was kept comfortable, fed, and milked. I don’t know whether or not any other cows have been transported anywhere by plane since then.

There are several possibilities for a story here, especially a children’s story. This is one to have some fun with.

Pluto Day is the day to celebrate the discovery of this tiny planet. On February 18, 1930, this distant planet was discovered by Clyde W. Tombaugh. This is your chance for not only a good historical fiction novel, but you coud also write a science fiction story from the events surrounding this momentous discovery.

National Drink Wine Day is the day to discover and enjoy the benefits of drinking wine. Not only does drinking wine reduce the risk of heart disease, its flavor also enhances the flavor of your food.

Do you think you can write a story centered around wine?  This would be the day to give it a try.

Chocolate Mint Day is a day to celebrate all of the delicious treats that have the wonderful taste of chocolate mint. I realize not everyone likes this flavor, but for those of us who do, it is heavenly. To celebrate this day, you need to eat lots of chocolate mint ice cream, or whatever other chocolate mint treat you like. If you are not a fan of chocolate mint treats, why not buy some for a person who is?

There is no record of how or why this day was started, but I’m sure you can come up with a really interesting way that it began in a story.

Love Your Pet Day – If you have any pets, this would be the day to treat them extra well. Buy them a special new toy and fix them a special meal. If you don’t have any pets, buy a special toy for your friend’s pets. Or you could treat the animals at your local animal shelter to some treats or even a new home.

To celebrate this day, write a story about how an animal made someone’s day very special.

If you celebrate Northern Hemisphere Hoodie Hoo Day, people may think that you’re just a little strange. On this day at noon, you are supposed to go outside, wave your hands over your head, and chant “Hoodie-Hoo”. Why on earth would you want to do that? It is supposed to help chase away winter and your winter blues. It is supposed to encourage the sun to come back and warm up the days. You think those weather-forecasting groundhogs could have had anything to do with the creation of this day?
