The Suirlang Chronicles: Lee – a Review

Are you scared of what lurks in the dark? The suirlang, a creature you don’t want to meet, doesn’t always lurk in the dark, but it does prefer to come out at night. You will know one is close by the horrendous stench that fills the air around it. The way this suirlang feeds is liable to turn your stomach. The fact that you this creature lives a double life should make you think twice about who you hang out with. When in human form, there is unfortunately no way to recognize it.

Lester and Teri, once boyfriend and girlfriend, aren’t exactly on the friendliest of terms right now, but they are riding to the University of Houston together. Everything goes great until construction pops up and they have to take a detour down a dark and lonely road. In the dark, he hits something that causes his car to go up on two wheels. When he looks back, he sees a girl lying in the road and rushes back to help her. But something comes flying out of the dark night air and attacks him.

The lives of these two teenagers will forever be changed.

Lester limps the car to Lee, one strange and creepy little town, to be fixed. The sign advertises it as the friendliest town in Texas. Its residents are hospitable and make them feel welcome, but they pay no attention to Lester’s tale of a monster. It doesn’t take long to figure out that there is more to Lee than what its sign says. A huge church revival will be happening soon, and the people of Lee don’t seem to want them to miss it.

Creatures of the dark and the unknown all played on my fears. The underlying tension that lurked beneath every word would not let go of me. I did not want to put this book down. Something bad was going to happen, but I didn’t know when. I wondered if these two young people would ever see life outside of Lee again.

Even when things have seemingly returned to normal, they have not. What Teri and Lester experienced was horrible beyond words. Nothing like that will happen again though, right? Then someone appears in the very last chapter that lets you know that this chilling and suspenseful story isn’t over yet.

The Suirlang Chronicles: Lee is a book that will send chills down your spine and fill the time you’re sleeping with nightmares. This was a great book, one that I highly recommend for all of you who love reading horror.
