No Interruptions Day & Other Holidays That End the Year

On December 31, will your character celebrate New Year’s Eve? Or will he celebrate one of the other holidays that are also on this day? Maybe she will choose Make Up Your Mind Day. How about No Interruptions Day or Unlucky Day? Which holiday appeals to your character?

Make Up Your Mind Day is celebrated on December 31 every year. This is the day to make up your mind. You know all of those decisions you’ve put off making during the year? Now is the time to make them before the year ends. And you might ought to make some New Year’s resolutions while you’re at it.

Your character has a huge decision to make. He has been putting it off all year long, but it cannot be delayed any longer. What is this decision? What is at stake? What will happen when he finally decides what to do? How many other people will the choice he makes affect? And how will it affect them?

Just about every country has its own New Year’s Eve traditions. Here in the United States, the dropping of the New Year ball in Times Square in New York City is probably the most famous.

In Spain, it is traditional to eat twelve grapes at midnight. Why? Each grape represents a month of the year, and if you eat twelve of them, it is supposed to secure you twelve happy months in the coming year. If only it were so simple.

There are many more traditions than the above two. Why not research the New Year’s Eve traditions of different countries until you come across one that really sparks your creative interest? Then you can stop and write a story about it.

If you aren’t lucky enough to have the day off, No Interruptions Day will be your last working day of the year. On this day, workers are encouraged to ignore things that would normally be disruptive to their workday.

A store has decided to give a huge monetary prize to the one worker who can successfully work on this holiday without being distracted from what his job is. Only there is a bit of a catch. People have been hired to distract all the workers. How are those who have been hired going to try and distract the employees? Is there one of them that simply will not be distracted?

The last day of December is also Unlucky Day. This last day of the year is the one day to get rid of all the unlucky things in your life so that the next year may bring you better luck.

I realize there is a picture of a black cat crossing your path to the left. Because of superstition, black cats have become a symbol of bad luck, but I do not believe that they are unlucky in any way. Black cats have kept me company for most of the past thirty-one years, and three of them live with me now.

What does your character consider to be the unlucky things in his life? Has he had encounters with black cats that he feels has cursed him? What if he thinks the unlucky things in his life are all people? How will he get rid of them? Will he simply tell them that he is no longer their friend? Or will he begin to kill them one at a time?
